Iowa State Athletics Partners with McFarland Clinic Sports Medicine
Release from Iowa State Athletics: Iowa State University Department of Athletics and McFarland Clinic are teaming up to provide comprehensive sports medicine care for Cyclone student-athletes. McFarland Clinic physicians will serve as the official team physicians for Iowa State student-athletes. McFarland's team of sports medicine physicians includes primary care physicians, orthopedic surgeons, and additional specialists needed in the care of specific sports related injuries or overall performance.

Two McFarland physicians, Dr. Sarah Bancroft and Dr. Marc Shulman, are the primary care team physicians and will provide medical care and game day coverage for Iowa State student-athletes. Dr. Bancroft and Dr. Shulman, recently joined McFarland Clinic team and both are trained in sports medicine primary care.

Sarah Bancroft, DO, recently served as the Medical Director of the Sports Medicine program at the IU Health La Porte Hospital in La Porte, Indiana. She completed a sports medicine fellowship and family medicine residency at Metro Health Hospital in Grand Rapids. She received her doctorate of osteopathic medicine degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in Kansas City, Missouri.
Prior to joining McFarland Clinic, Marc Shulman, MD, served as Iowa State University team physician for over 20 years. Dr. Shulman completed his sports medicine/faculty development fellowship and his family medicine residency at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. He received his doctorate of medicine from Wayne State University in Detroit.
McFarland Clinic board certified orthopedic sports medicine surgeons, Dr. Peter Buck, Dr. Tom Greenwald and Dr. Bryan Warme, are the orthopedic specialists for the Iowa State student-athletes. These physicians are members of the McFarland Sports Medicine team and have had a long standing commitment to Iowa State athletics providing medical care to the sports programs for over 25 years.
In addition to serving Iowa State student-athletes, the McFarland Sports Medicine team provides services at McFarland Clinic for athletes of all levels and ages including youth, high school, collegiate and recreational athletes.
Services include sports injury evaluation and treatment, rehabilitation, concussion management, sprain and fracture management, physical therapy, and aquatic therapy. Procedures offered include bracing/splinting, arthroscopy of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle, Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment, and ultrasound guided injections. Sports performance can be addressed through enhancement programs, customized fitness assessments, and certified athletic training services.
